 The counselors at Mtka HS starting a program entitled Tonka Prep.  They are currently working with about 30 young men who have not thought much about post high school education and opportunities and they are helping them outline a path.  The goal is to grow the group to 100

Each year we involve our newest members in our sweetest smelling fundraiser, THE ROTARY ROSE SALE, scheduled for March 16, 2022. This event allows you to jump into what makes Rotary fun...raising money...and then giving it away through our club’s charitable giving program. This is a relatively simple fundraiser and it is easy if we all pitch in and take a small role.

We purchase roses from a local wholesaler for about $9 a dozen after the peak Valentines season. We then sell them through members for $20 a dozen. Most years we sell between 700 to 900 dozen. Members reach out to their networks (neighbors, teachers, business associates, family etc.) to sell the roses. We also reach out to other Rotary clubs in the area. 

The roses will arrive on Wednesday, March 16th. The delivery will be made to the Commons (below the post office) in Excelsior where all of us will assemble the members' orders so they can drive up to get their roses for delivery.

There are some important tasks that need to be done:

·        Assist with event logistics on the ROSE PICK-UP DAY, March 16th.

·         Pick a local Rotary Club in the area to contact to sell/deliver roses

·         Make announcements during the PIG portion of our meetings to promote the sale

Please consider getting involved with these two very exciting projects at the Waters in Excelsior!  The MY STORYBOOK project is interviewing Memory Care residents and their family members that will be used to create a book about their lives.  The LIFE STORY VIDEO project involves working with the Assisted Living and Independent residents to record their stories to be stored on USB drives.

Eric is a longtime fixture on  the Twin Cities TV landscape. The former Sports Anchor spent 25 years at KARE 11.  Best known as Perk, he covered the Minnesota sports scene including five Olympic Games for NBC. He won several Regional Emmy Awards and has worked alongside many non profits and charities throughout the community. Having recently left local TV, Perk is now focusing his efforts on his own production company, Perk at Play Productions. Perk as a wife and three kids in the west metro. 

Help in prepping the Commons this spring for some new plantings and a bee/pollinator lawn.

Our goal is to prep the run down turf by the Oak Knolls for increased seed germination. This will include raking the turf, seeding and applying a layer of compost. We will also be demonstrating a chemical free way to eradicate turf for fall planting. This is called Lasagne Gardening or Sheet Mulching where we layer organic matter and build the soil up and then plant directly in the Fall.
